THE ELABORATION LIKELIHOOD MODEL'S INFLUENCE ON PERSUASIVE APPEALS

The elaboration likelihood model is a model where we are trying to change a person’s attitude through communication. This model allows someone to use a type of persuasion to make a reader or a person’s view change on a subject.  The example that I will use is fairly done in politics. This model will work very well when talking about changing certain laws that could affect many people. The way that you use your communication tactics to implement a response from a person is a vital part of this theory. Think of taxes going up and your job is to explain it to a way to persuade and elaborate the reason why it’s going up and why it could be a beneficial thing.  I find this theory would be beneficial if I’m writing to make people understand and accept change.  The two step flow theory says that most people form their opinions based on influences from high public opinion leaders. The biggest example I can say for the two step flow theory is win a celebrity comes out in backs a cause. The moment a celebrity comes out and says therefore calls brings awareness and can change someone’s public opinion based on who that celebrity is. The biggest influence can be just for basic shopping, we have athletes that back certain brands thus shaping public opinion that people will buy those brands. I would say that I use the two step flow theory, when I share certain media topics based on who originated the topic. For example when it’s ever breaking news I probably would share more likely CNN than any other new source because I find them more credible. Additionally if a celebrity posted something online that they were strong about I would most likely repost that because the person sharing is someone I feel trustworthy. I don’t believe I am as vulnerable as the bullet/hypodermic theory suggests most people are. I would say I’m a little more resistant to media influence because I do most of my research and knowledge before, I make an opinionated decision. I think many articles try to do that, like the articles that attack any president on whatever they’re doing I find they’re trying to push and agenda that could lead to other things. Thus, it can also shape the views of people. I find the media does do a little bit of propaganda and they try to get people to buy into something. I don’t really get into media influences and I’m not vulnerable to it I kind of resist to all media influencers because I never base my beliefs on the written word of someone else. I would however read an article and see if it fits some of the same beliefs that I have and I would still than research it to confirm my beliefs, but I wouldn’t just change my beliefs.  Most of my news is basic news that I read about and I’m not going
